Clean up your life!

"hoarding (or some call it collecting) what is not essential, is actually just an outward manifestation of a fear of poverty"
How much do we really need? Have you ever noticed how much stuff we collect? How many times have you bought something, only to discover later, that you don't really use it?
We all in western civilization have more stuff than we need. Everything we accumulate that is not used becomes a restriction on our freedom. Stuff needs to protected, maintained, stored, cleaned, insured and takes up space. And then someone comes up with a newer and improved model and we collect more stuff. Usually, we keep the old stuff and we end up with more and more stuff.
Some measure their worth, by the amount and value of their stuff. These people need counseling. The way some folks boast about their possessions, is akin to thieves boasting after they have pillaged and plunder the defenceless innocents.
Have you ever noticed that the wisest and most enlightened humans that walked the face of the planet lived the simpliest lives? Now I'm not suggesting that I'm going to start walking around in a loin cloth and give away my belongings but I am going to start a program of 'daily decreasing'.
Everyday, for a 30 day trial period, I'm going to look for something to; give away, throw it out or sell it. I think it would be liberating to reduce the amount of stuff that I posess. Why don't you give it a try?

YES!! I love those "Clean House" or "Clean Sweep" shows. It is inspiring me to get rid of the useless. I remember the old Kung Fu show, with Caine walking all over and he took nothing but his jacket, flute, and not much else and said he was "free". Like you, I'm not quite at the "get rid of it, Grasshopper" level YET-- but I hear that these 3 questions will help-- 1-Have you used it recently? 2-Is it essential? 3- would your life suffer without it?
I looked around and about 90% of my "stuff" would qualify to be removed if analyzed by those. Think how freeing the extra space is-- and clutter really does effect thought. Thank you again for the wonderful inspiration to action. Serendipitous-- sort of like your sabatoged cell phones.
Aloha
good thoughts Chappy! I'm also thinking that clearing out stuff, makes room for better things.
