Lazy people are smarter

"all of man's problems can be traced to the fact that he can't stand to have silence, stillness and solitude"

I've wrote before about how it's the lazy people that make the best inventors, writers and even entrepeneurs. You see us lazy folks always want to find the short cuts to getting things done. We love the easy path. We are like water, that finds the low spots and lets gravity do the work, to take us to the ocean (possibilities).

"he does not seem to me to be a free man, who does not sometimes do nothing" Cicero

So let's talk about how to relax and enjoy. Our poor brains are so full good stuff and unnecessary junk information, that they no longer work efficiently. Even in our down times, most turn on the TV, the radio or the internet. We refuse to give our poor old brains a break. We require constant stimulation of some sort. It's no wonder that we have few new ideas or insights.

"we give up leisure that me may have leisure" Thoreau

If you want to fire up your creative juices, it would help to remove as much stimulus as possible. Free up those brain cells to do some productive thinking. And the best way to do that is to go outside. It would be better to go the park, the lake or out in the woods, depending on what is available to you.

"the wisdom of a learned man, cometh by opportunity of leisure, and he that hath little business, shall become wise"
The Bible

Connect with nature, take off your shoes and socks and plant those feet on the ground. It's very freeing; just watch any young child. If you want to feel really young and free, I would suggest running around buck naked, but your town may have some ordinances against that.

“The really efficient laborer will be found not to crowd his day with work, but will saunter to his task surrounded by a wide halo of ease and leisure.” Thoreau

Relaxing can take many forms, such as a leisurely walk or even a drive in the countryside with the windows down. How about laying on your back and watching the clouds go by, just like we did as kids. A while back I wrote about some research that suggested that high ceilings in buildings led to more creative thoughts. Well, just imagine how high the ceiling is when you are outside?

"The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts. Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world. And they are not only happy in themselves, they are the cause of happiness in others." William Lyon Phelps

Once the brain is in a relaxed state, the thoughts and ideas rush in to fill the void (some of us have bigger voids than others).

I'm told howling at the moon, works wonders for some folks, but my neighbors probably think I'm weird enough as it is.

"Smile amigos, it looks really good on you"

I have an insurance friend of mine that gets up at 5am and begins a MAD RUSH to get to work and begin his day-- rushes through things and goes like he is fighting fire all day, rarely stopping to drink some water or breathe in a little fresh air. He usually works until very late then rushes home and on weekends gets up early again and begins moving things from one location to another to "improve" how it is-- only to move it back where it was the following weekend. The funny part?-- He can't figure out why he is so tired all the time and gets nothing done!! He could take a lesson from YOU!! Relaxing and doing nothing for a bit might save his life!! (or at least prevent a stroke or something)

here's a thought Chappy, how about passing this article on to him? Who knows maybe, he'll see the light and join up with the rest of weirdos!

I've done that. Nothing. I've offered to hypnotize him and he is dead set against that (being a southern religious guy-- which I am too, but I realize that God gives us ALL things to enjoy-- and hypnosis is a TOOL just like a hammer), and I've offered to teach him Tai chi, and things like that. I've managed to get him to use "anchors" -- an NLP technique, for a couple days, but he goes right back to his regular nervous and stressed out ways and wonders why he is sick so much. I'm taking him some "miracle" cards this week.

I went and "worked" with my insurance buddy for about 3 very short days, and he finally said "I don't know how I'm going to be able to pay you.." and after several attempts to get him to relax, simplify, and focus,he decided he "can't" with every suggestion I gave him. I gave him the ideas DIRECTLY from the book Farmer's insurance gave him to show him how to improve his business, and he STILL refused.
Bottom line-- the definition of insanity is "doing the exact same things the exact same way every time and expecting DIFFERENT results"-- well, I won't say he is insane, but to put it bluntly, his results AIN'T CHANGING-- and until HE decides that they can, I can't help him. In other words, the entire trick to ALL of our problems regardless of what they are starts in that space between our ears!! Some of us when facing into the wind hear strange boat whistles, while some hear "slosh" noises when we move our heads, but until we get control of that spot in there, NOTHING CHANGES!!
