If we were only so lucky

Buenas Dias Sir Eddie, those are the happy words of my amigo Jorge. I love to hear this greeting every morning on the beach. Im not sure why it amuses both of us so much, but it makes us both smile every time.

Jorge is the happiest person I have ever met. He is always smiling, whistling or singing. His warmth and positive energy is like morning sunshine to everyone who has the pleasure to meet him. Jorge is a beach cleaner.

Jorge speaks very little English and yet he is a master communicator. His love of life is infectious. I assume he is one of the poorest paid employees at this resort.
However, if our wealth is determined by how happy we are with what you have, then my amigo Jorge must be a tycoon.

I love to watch Jorge's interactions with the guests. I watch people go out of their way, so they can have a brief cheerful greeting from him. They give him tips, bring him presents and even fetch him coffee. The beach cleaner is being waited on by the wealthy touristas.

Jorge is a humble, hard working man. He takes great pride and loves his job. He does it extremely well and he does it with a gusto. The beach is perfecto when he is done and that's the way he likes it for his guests.

I imagine I make more in an hour then Jorge does in a month and yet who is really the richer person. Now if you will excuse me, I just noticed that no one has brought Jorge his morning coffee. If I hurry it can be my great pleasure to serve him.

Now, lets see, he likes his coffee black with one sugar...must hurry...

Sir Eddie
