How to communicate better

"You hear what I say, but you don't know what I mean"
It's not the words that we get wrong, it's our interpretation of those words that gets us into trouble. Let me explain. Suppose someone says to you, 'sometimes it annoys me when you say those things'. There are several ways you could interpret that statement.
You might think to yourself... what I just said, annoys the other person a little, when they are having a bad day but otherwise, it's not much of a big deal. Or, you might think to yourself...that person really dislikes me saying those things. So which is the truth?
Well what if, the person said to you...on a scale of 1 to 10, my level of annoyance about, what you said, is a 10. If this came from the mouth of your significant other, I'll bet you would thinking....we won't be getting jiggy tonight! And if they rated it only, a 1 or 2, then you could assure yourself, it will be forgotten in a few minutes.
So there you have it, a very simple method of communication that leaves no doubt as to the depth and meaning of what was said.
Now on a scale of 1 to 10, how much do I feel like goofing off for the day....make that a 10!
