I have a hunch you are going to be really liking this!

We've all experienced sudden moments of knowingness. We know them as hunches, intuitions and flashes of insight.
Here is what Dr. Joyce Brothers has to say about this...
'hunches are usually based on facts that are hidden just below the concious level'
So you could say that hunches are a form of inner wisdom. This wisdom can be experienced by a gut feeling, a flash of insight, a dream or an unexpected rush of energy.
Generally speaking our culture preaches logic and scoffs at intuition. So we were mostly trained to not trust these hunches. However, many of the worlds greatest inventions and visions were born in moments of doing nothing when the recipient was moved by an intuition.
Benjamin Franklin flew a kite and Sir Isaac Newton loved to mediatate under an apple tree. They did quite well by their sudden insights. And I'm betting your mother had pretty good intuitions when you did something wrong!
So how do you encourage your own intuitions? First you need to find all available knowledge on the subject (remember that hunches are usually based on facts). Find your own special quiet spot that is free from distraction. Next you need to totally trust in yourself to find the answers. And finally when you get the hunch, write it down immediately. Hunches can be very fleeting insights that can be easily lost or forgotten. They are best captured when the mind has quiet moments and sometimes during mundane chores such as driving or showering.
One thing is certain, you aren't likely to capture a great insight if the radio is blaring your favorite tunes. My final comment is that if you don't use your insights when you do get them the mind automatically quits retrieving insights for you. So expect intuition to show up and it will!
And amigos think on this..."you lose 100% of the opportunities that you never go for"

I have a real strong hunch that I am going to enjoy myself at the lake this weekend!

They still sell snake oil

A hundred years ago, it was common in the United States for travelling salesman to cross the country selling cures for all that ails you. And guess what? A lot of their cures worked! Well, at least they worked for a short time.

What few people knew was that some of those magical potions contained cocaine and alcohol. So naturally those who purchased the products got a short term good feeling. This led to their success. Long term? No benefit.

Today, we have a different kind of 'snake oil salesman'. The modern version peddle a pile of self-help products that have now been proven to not work.

One such product is subliminal tapes. Million and millions of tapes have been sold to a gullible public to help you lose weight, quit smoking or to attract incredible wealth. Science has now proven beyond any doubt through countless studies,
they have absolutely no benefit! This is a multi-million dollar industry based on a sham.
There is a short term placebo effect where people claim to feel something. However in terms of concrete results.....nothing! The only thing they do is make money for the producers of this scam.

Here is an urban myth that is often used to sell these tapes and other products. You only use 10% of your brain. Again scientific studies prove conclusively this is an impossiblity. If you only used 10% of your brain people would look at us and say, "look at Eduardo he is laying there motionless and not breathing, it's almost like he is dead" Because that is what you would be, dead. Sellers of subliminal tapes often profess that their tapes will help you access the 90% of your brain that you haven't been using.

There is a new branch of phsychology that has been expanding rapidly, it is called Positive Psyhcology and it is examining things like what is it that leads to happiness and success. The good news for us is that we can find out what really works and what is just todays version of snake oil.

This is important!

Do your remember a few posts ago, I told you about a study done at Stanford University? They proved how they could change a person's belief's by having them write about something that was the oppositie of what they believed. A few months later they retested the same students and found they had in deed changed what they believed in.Eureka!

It has occurred to me (the obvious) that we might be able to change our own beliefs by using the same method. Suppose you have a limiting belief, like say...losing weight, getting fit or quitting smoking is difficult. So then what you do is sit down and write an essay with a contrary opinion....losing weight, getting fit or smoking is easy.

According to the tested results within a couple of months, you should have a different belief! Now would you be interested in taking a half hour out of your day to lose weight, get fit or quit smoking? If your answer is no, I don't have the time, then you have a serious problem amigo.

Say goodbye to my procrastination habit.

This is getting personal

Increasingly, I have been getting emails asking me stuff like;
why do you do this?
what do you get out of writing a blog?
why don't you publish your full name?
where do you get your ideas from?
and what mind altering drugs do you take?
So for those of you who think this information is totally useless, I declare a recess for you until I return to my usual ramblings...
So why do I bother doing this?
This started as a way to record my thoughts and keep track of research I've found. The thought has also occurred to me that someday I intend to write a book. A blog I then concluded would be the most fun and easy way to accomplish that ( a little bit at a time). Also, this has become a great learning technique for me. It requires that I do a certain amount of research. Some folks are amused by what I write (I'm one of those) Finally, it has become a way to share and contribute in some small way to giving others a gentle nudge towards a different perspective.
What do I get out of writing a blog?
It's not a really good paying job! There is no monetary gain. I do however get tremendous satisfaction when I hear that others are entertained, informed or even occasionally enlightened by something I've written.
Why don't I publish my full name?
I really can't imagine why anyone would care however my thinking was to keep my ego out of it. I've visited so many sites that I think have become 'ego glorifications' to the writer. My ego is big enough already.
Where do you get your ideas from?
Books, internet, newspapers, talking to people, other sites and from the dark recesses of my mind. Mostly I get new thoughts by shutting out the noise of the world. A little silence and solitude works for me.
What mind altering drugs do I take?
Wine, beer and coffee!
Ok, there is all you never needed to know about this writer.
Smile, it looks really good on you!

The Truthteller Blog Brain

I am pleased to report that the 'Truthteller Blog Brain' is expanding rapidly!
I got the term 'blog brain' from Scott Adam's Blog (Dilbert cartoon guy). The blog brain is the collective intelligence of those who share in this blog or any other.
The blog brain is measured by the responses that are received in the comments below the articles posted and the emails I receive in response to those articles. More responses and higher quality responses equals, bigger blog brain.
As the narrator, I get to put the ideas out there and it is your feedback that expands those thoughts and of course expands the Truthteller blog brain. I have found that the collective intelligence is addictive. Also, I'm convinced that you who frequent blogs are more informed and are generally deeper thinkers than others.
My experience thus far has been that there are a lot of intelligent people like you who are out there in the vast internet world who have a love of knowledge. And frequently you enjoy sharing insights and ideas with the rest of us. You see things that I never saw and thought up ideas my brain never comprehended. This is really good!
So thank you so much for expanding the Truthteller Blog Brain! I'll leave you with this short story....
"There is a story about heaven and hell.
In both places everyone's arms are too
long and stiff, to feed themselves.
In hell they're starving because they
can't feed themselves.
In Heaven, they feed each other" (Anonymous)
Smile, it looks really good on you!

Pssst....I found the secret to a long healthy life!

You may not realize it, but, just because you read this blog, you are going to be one the first people on the planet to find out about..
"The secret to a long healthy life"
This is a Truthteller exclusive! I will be applying for a patent on this remarkable idea, so don't try and steal it for profit!
This afternoon I had one of those eureka moments, and almost drove off the road. I was driving home and thinking about the Law of Attraction. For those few who don't know what that is, here is what everyone on the Internet is all abuzz about..
"what you think about most, is what you attract into your life"
Your subconcious mind is taking your predominant thoughts and manifesting them into reality. Stay with me, this gets interesting.
So I was thinking about what message your subconsious gets when you never or rarely laugh. It must be thinking....this is no fun, let's get out of here, as soon as we can. So then it starts manifesting a retreat from life (you die early) To do that it needs to manifest poor health.
Now what about a person who laughs a lot? Then the subconcious must be interpreting this as...this life thing is fun and easy, let's stick around as long as possible. And to keep you around for a long time, it needs to keep you healthy.
Brilliant logic right? I can see the future with Laughter and Longevity Schools springing up everywhere. Maybe we could franchise the idea and really cash in. You send me your money to invest and I'll (laugh all the way to the bank).
I'm feeling so good about this idea, I'll leave you with a couple of my favourite laughter quotes..
"I am thankful for laughter,
except when milk comes out of my nose" (Woody Allen)
and then there is this...
"the first day I found your blog Eduardo,
I couldn't stop laughing all day long.
One of these days, I think
I'm going to read it" (unknown)

The way of the lazy man!

"you can't teach people
to be lazy....either they
have it, or they don't"
Dagwood Bumstead

So here is one of my wacky theories explained, that says to get what we want, we need to quit working hard! I'll bet that got your interest?

The universe doesn't fight or snarl. It does things in the easiest and most efficient manner possible. Just as electricity finds the path of least resistance, water flows to the lowest point in the land and forms rivers that find the path of least resistance on its journey to the ocean. It does this because it is the easiest way (letting gravity do the work).

So I'm thinking that life is like that (or should be). We should quit trying so damn hard to be successful or happy. We should follow natures example and take the easy way.

Aha, I can imagine what you are saying to yourself about now? This nut thinks he will be happy and successful by doing nothing! Well you are right (I am a nut) no actually I mean you can't get what you want by doing nothing.

So what pray tell Eddyweirdo, is the easiest path you speak of? Well grasshopper, it's all about dreaming and thinking! That sounds fun and easy, right? (it's ok, I always talk to myself)

Imagine the consequences if we worked 4 hours per day and then spent the next 4 hours dreaming up possibilities and thinking of how to implement them? Now if someone can tell me how to sell the idea to employers, we could change the world.
"progress is made by lazy men,
looking for easier ways to do things" (Robert A. Heinlein)

The Myth of the 'Go-Getter'

The movies and novels repeat the myth of the 'go-getter' (sometimes called the hustler). Myth has it that you can fight, scratch and use superior will power to conquer the pinnacles of success. The go-getter, gets the good life.

The myth is crap!

Anyone who's life is full of strife, conflict will eventually succumb to poor health. He can accumulate wealth but sacrificies wisdom, spirit, health and love. This is a path that leads to ulcers, heart attack and early death.

The final insult for the 'go-getter' is that it is so unnecessary! Success and happiness don't have to be hard and difficult. That's the result of poor thinking. Right thinking gets you what you want without neither the effort or the pain.

"action is not efficient, unless it is right action"

Right action produces quicker results with less effort. So be not busy nor in a hurry, because you won't have time to learn what you need to know. To do that you need silence and solitude to let the better quality thoughts surface. As Abraham Lincoln said...

"if I had 6 hours to chop a huge tree, I would spend 5 hours sharpening my axe"

Eduardo

P.S. So when you see me relaxing on my boat this summer, soaking up a few rays, remember, I might not be goofing off...I could be in serious thinking mode (so please don't disturb me, thanks)

What are you for?

"we will gladly do, all we reasonably can,
if you can show us what we have to gain
by being for your cause"

Reading this mornings paper I came across an article that was about 'Fighting Global Warming' and I wondered if this type of campaign would be effective?

Looking at issues from a negative viewpoint does not inspire people. The 'War against Drugs' was a dismal failure despite the massive money and effort expended. Telling people the negative things that will happen to them if they take drugs, just has not worked. Trying to scare people sober hasn't scared anyone long term.

So maybe we should follow the lead of the big advertising agencies and marketers? They don't try and sell you a car by saying, if you don't buy our car you will get in an accident and die. Rather they tell you about how much fun and excitement you will have with their beautiful car or SUV. That's what sells.

So instead of being against something lets be for something. Let's be for clean air and pristine lakes. Let's be for a healthy environment. Let's talk about the advantages and then explain the easy steps, so that we can all help clean up the world.

let's be for a fun, easy life, over-flowing with abundance for everyone!

"everyone wants hope and the prospect
of a better life. We will gladly pay if
someone will show us the way"

Guess who wins when you forgive

Forgiveness is not about the wrongdoer, it's about you!

Forgiveness lightens your heart and soul in ways that revenge never can.
This has to be one of life's hardest lessons. First let's discuss what forgiveness is not? It has nothing to do with condoning the act that created the hurt. Wrong doers should face the consequences of their actions. Your anger might well be justified, but the negative energy created by thoughts of revenge, anger, hatred, animosity will eat your body alive.

So forgiveness is really about healing you. Allowing you to be free to heal. Once you forgive you don't have to be a victim of those past experiences. Forgiveness let's us get on with enjoying our lives instead of being preoccupied with someone else's. Health and happiness are the natural state for human beings. However the stress caused by carrying around the negative energy of hurt prevents us from reaching this natural state.

It is nobodys birthright to expect forgiveness for a transgression. It's up to you to decide when you are ready. But when you are ready you can remove what blocks your energy and happiness.

The next question is how to forgive? It is not necessary in my opinion to get face to face with perpetrator and in some situations definately not advisable. To start, just say to yourself something like this....I forgive you, I now understand that you are a victim as well. You have attracted a pile of negativity to yourself perhaps without knowing it. I forgive you.

The next stage would be to say, I forgive you, I don't condone your actions but I love you. This may take a long time but when you do get to the point where you can say it and mean it, you will be healed! You will have earned the right to call yourself an enlightened human being.

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong" Ghandi

Or how about this from the Lord's Prayer..

"Forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those that trespass against us"

I'm not sure but it sounds to me that you don't get forgiven until you forgive those that wronged you. I wonder how many Christians dutifuly say the Lord's Prayer while glossing over that part of it?

Competition vs Creativity

"did you know that the idea
of having a left and a right shoe,
did not exisit a little over a
century ago"

Most of us were raised to believe in the benefits of competition. If we worked a little harder or did something a little better than the next guy it would lead to some form of victory or success. I now believe we would be better served if we changed our focus from competition to creativity.

The end result would be that we become happier and more successful. Less stress and more reward. Competition attempts to be like. In competition we analyze the opponent and copy what we think we see as successful. Then we try to do a little more or do it a little better. That sounds logical but there is a major flaw in that strategy. And that is that it breeds sameness. We end up trying to do the same thing only a little better.

The great achievors in life are focused on creativity. Creativity leads to newness. A new way to do things and not just a slightly better way. A totally new product instead of a slightly better one.To create something is much more satisfying. It leads to whole new ways of doing things. It is exciting and not just a grind.Competition is an outdated model that leads to modest gains. Creativity can blow the doors open and do what has never been done before. The greatest things in life are those that you created!

"another word for creativity is courage"

Shades of grey are good for you

"Life wouldn't be quite so difficult
if we didn't make it so"
I ran into a client this morning who is one of those guys, I would describe as a person who sees things in black and white. By that I mean, he believes he has all the answers and there is no deviating on anything in his beliefs. He feels quite superior in his beliefs and greatly dislikes those who have too many grey areas in their lives.
I problem that I see, is that he is more stressed out than most people. Being right all of the time must take a toll on his mental well being. Quite a load to carry around, I'm thinking.
Those who can see that others are entitled to a different view point seem to me to be happier and much easier to be around.
Of course it makes sense to have strong core beliefs if you desire to be a moral person. And defending your strongly held position is the right thing to do. However, opening your mind to someone else's differnt perspective will get you more friends.. and less heart attacks!

8 things I wished I had learned when I was younger!

Wouldn't it be nice if we hadn't made so many mistakes in our past?

Some things it seems we just have to learn the hard way. But others we learn through experience and we can pass it on to our kids or others. Here are some of those things that I wished I'd known earlier in my life....

1. Everything is easier than you think.

2. Everything takes longer and costs more than you think.

3. Whatever you want to do, has probably been done by someone successfully before, so if you can get their advice in person or from a book you will save time, money and grief.

4. No matter how complicated something is, it can be broken down into simplier parts.

5. Always ask yourself....who can help?

6. Small gradual improvements (Kaizen theory) can lead to big and impressive results.

7. Spend less than you make (enough said)

8. Take more risks. I'm not talking about betting the family farm on the stock market. Doing things like public speaking can be a terrific high and worth the risk. Or how about starting that business you've dreamed about. We all would benefit from getting outside our comfort zone occasionally.

Ok, now its your turn to pass on some wisdom! Tell us what you wished you had learned years ago.

Small easy changes

I'm always trying to think about how to do things an easier and if possible a more fun way. So when I think of someone trying to accomplish a major task, like say quitting smoking or losing weight....I think what would be an easier way? Then I remembered hearing about the Japanese management concept of 'Kaisen'. Kaisen means, continuous small improvements.
Small changes are a lot easier than big changes and faster to implement.

"a series of small successes
very quickly builds the confidence
to tackle the bigger goals"

So I'm thinking if you wanted to quit smoking, how about determining how many cigarettes you smoke in a day. Let's say that you smoke 30 per day. Now with the Kaisen approach you would not try and quit cold turkey, you would smoke one less cigarette per day. In 30 days you are a 'non smoker'. Makes sense right?

So what other changes could you make by using this Kaisen theory? Let's imagine you wanted to write a book? If you just committed to write a page per day, that would be a small, easy step towards your end goal. Of course, after writing a page you might feel inclined to write a little extra and very soon you would be moving surprisingly quickly towards the end objective.
With small easy steps there is no reason to not get started. Getting started on a big project is what holds most of us up in the first place.

Let's just not tell the women in our life about this concept when it comes to doing projects around the house!

Let's play the BLAME GAME!

this is all about trying to find the easy way out! Sadly, that which looks like the easy answer is actually the longest, hardest most pain inducing solution to a problem.....the blame game!
Here is the truth....
"when you blame others or circumstances, you are giving up control"
And of course, when you give up control, there is little if any chance that the situtation will improve. Who has the most incentive to see that your life improves? You, of course. Waiting for 'roast duck to fly into your mouth', might be the longest wait in your life.
"when you accept responsiblity for everything
in your life, you regain control"
Who better to be deciding your fate, than you?
Eduardo
P.S. I just realized, I still blame Yoko Ono for breaking up the Beatles. I guess I'll just have to let it go!

Something for nothing...

one of the problems I have the 'Law of Attraction' is the mistaken idea that, by thinking about wealth, you will receive wealth. It takes more than that!
Here is one of life's secrets revealed from the book...The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity...
"you cannot get something for nothing,
but you can have the best of everything,
when you give full measure for the good
you wish to receive"
Emerson said, Great hearts send forth steadily the secret forces that incessantly draw great events" I think what he was saying was that, if you put forth great thoughts and equal action you get back great results.
And great thoughts must be positive thoughts. This is the quickest and most assured path to prosperity having positive thoughts and feelings. It is the product of habitually right thinking.

Pictures that inspire

Today, I have a very special gift for you! These incredible photos were taken by Sandrine. She is a regular vistor to this site and a very talented photographer as is so plain to see from these pictures!
She has a site with tons of other beautiful moments caputured with creativity and an eye for detail that escapes most of us. She calls herself an amateur photographer but I'll have to beg to differ on that. These are pictures that would make a professional envious. I consider myself an amateur photographer and I know talent when I see it.
Your gift today is, you are invited to visit her site here....
This reminds me that 'we all have a gift, something to share with the world"
If you haven't found your gift yet, don't worry, you will. Just pay attention to things that come easier to you than to other people. I know a friend, who with just a smile can make people feel special. Your gift may be big or it may be small but it is unique to you. I can't remember who said it, but, "God gave you a gift, what you do with it, is your gift to God.
Smile, it looks really good on you!

Vacuum Law of Prosperity

I'll just bet you never heard of this one? I found this in an old book that was written in the early '60's written by Catherine Ponder. It's called the 'Vacuum Law of Prosperity' and this is what it says....

"If you want greater prosperity, start forming a vacuum to receive it"

In other words, get rid of what you don't want to make room for what you do want. Nature abhors a vacuum and will rush to fill it.

This one takes a certain boldness and faith to practice. Often it is difficult to know what you do want until you get rid of what you do not want. (oh no, I can see disgruntled wives showing their husbands to the door)

It does make a certain amount of sense that when you begin moving out of your life, what you do not want, you are automatically making way for what you do want. By letting go of the lessor you make way for the better.

One problem some of us might have with letting go of stuff, is that we have memories attached to them. One solution is to take pictures of the item you are discarding. That way you retain the memory but make space something better to come into your life.

So say goodbye to the blue polyester suits and stand by for your new wardrobe!

In the moment

Here is a simple way to get more enjoyment out of your day. It doesn't cost you a penny and the effect can be very dramatic. It's called as the title suggests...where ever you are be there.

It's a simple little exercise that works like this...for one day, be consciously aware of everything and everyone you come in contact with. Let's say for instance that you are eating a meal, slow down and savour every single bite. Pay attention to the texture and flavours of the food. Notice the colors on your plate, give it your full attention. If your having a glass of wine imagine you are one of those wine connoisseurs and describe back to yourself what flavors you taste or what it reminds you of. You will be amazed at how much more appreciation you will have for your food and drink. As a side effect you won't feel the need to eat as much either.

Make a concious effort to give your full attention and appreciation to everyone that you come in contact with. You will start to see people in a whole new light. Suddenly the people that serve you become real people. You'll find ordinary people not so ordinary. Once you are more fully aware of the person you are talking to your exchanges become more warm and interesting. You will notice yourself talking less and listening more. The real bonus is that others will like you more and find you more interesting as well.
Paying attention to your environment you start to notice things that you never saw before. Your appreciation for nature rises sharply. You start to see beauty in places and things that would have escaped your attention previously. Little things, little details have greater significance. A mundane thing like driving to and from work becomes an experience. It really helps to turn the radio off, silence is golden.
One unexpected side benefit that I've experience is that I get more ideas, hunches and intuitions. This is a fun exercise that is all good, but I do have more suggestion. That is to write this down on a piece of paper and put it where you will see it often.....
Where ever you are be there!
You will appreciate the reminder to bring you back into conscious awareness...enjoy!

Class is dismissed...and so are you!

We all read and hear about different ideas and decided instantly whether we have any interest or not. What I'm thinking about is when we dismiss an idea or a thought that might acually been good for us.
Since I watched the DVD and read the book, The Secret I thought about the different people in my sphere of influence who would benefit from me sharing my discovery. It was interesting to me that the one's that I thought that would benefit from it the most were the one's least interested in watching, reading or even talking about it.
By contrast those that I felt needed it the least were the one's who jumped right on something that sounded interesting to them. They saw the immediate benefit not just for them but for others they thought might find value. This has me thinking about what I might have dismissed in my life that could have had major benefit to me?
Now obviously its healthy to dismiss some things like recreational drugs for instance. But perhaps we would all benefit if we were just a little more open minded and were not so quick to dismiss what we don't initially understand. Then there are those who dismiss the ideas of others and by doing so crush their enthusiasm. The damage done by belittling someone else's dreams can be devastating.
Here's what Mark Twain had to say about that..."keep away from people who belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that but the great one's make you feel that you too, can become great"

Business 'super success' tip

"In business, the higher levels of success
are dependent upon you delegating what
you are not good at. And putting forth
maximum effort on what you have a
passion for"

You've got to love that, delegating what you don't like to someone else. Sometimes of course that is not possible for everyone but what the quote talks about is the higher levels of success. So assume that you can afford to delegate the tasks you dislike.

Time becomes such a precious commodity when you are striving for high achievement. Using this method, I would think you would have time for the reallly important tasks, like...thinking and planning.

Also, with this comes FREEDOM! Freedom to really tackle what you love to do. Freedom to enjoy life. Freedom to make choices that are best for you and your family..

Ok, business school is out for the day. Make the rest of your day one big recess!

Everyday Magic

"the thing about magic is that it can't exist if you don't believe in it"

What if I could use some magic and if you did exactly as I told you....you would experience miracles in your life! Would you do as I told you?

For the majority of people the answer would be no!

There would be a pile of reasons why you would not do as I suggested despite my promise of a miracle to follow. Some of those might be...

* you don't believe in magic
* you don't believe in me
* you believe life is meant to be difficult so magic must be crap
* you believe nothing is that easy
* you believe in logic and this just isn't logical

So can you see my point? Even if, I presented you with a beautiful no fail method for success, some of you would reject it. You do that because you have a belief system that won't allow you to accept anything other than what you have been taught while you were growing up. Pity!

For those of you who believe that anything is possible, I have some really good news. In the field of Positive Psychology there have been some remarkable proven discoveries. This is not Magic....this is proven scientific facts. Some of your friends won't believe it because they have been programmed to not believe anything that might be fun or easy could work this way. It might be years before they accept this.

I am going to reveal a very simple technique that can have life changing benefits in your life. Because it is so simple you might tend to discount it, but if you try it, you will experience some impressive results.

For just 20 minutes on 3 different days of the week you are to write out a description of your life as if it turned out, just exactly as you would want it to be. You are to do this for 3 weeks. That's pretty easy isn't it. Especially if you get the promised results. Now, I didn't say that everything you envisioned would manifest itself. What I'm saying is that you will see life changing results.

Remember this isn't hocus pocus, this is based on scientific research. Of those who completed this research every single person reported feeling more optimistic and happier. They all reported that their life seemed easier and many reported outstanding achievements in this short period of time. Isn't that amazing?

So if you are in majority you will discard or ignore this research. If you are one of those with an open mind.....congratulations.... have a beautiful life!

thinking about something can
make it happen. Turns out maybe
faith can move mountains"

Moments of greatness

"man's greatness, lies in his power of thought"
Blaise Pascal
I've been thinking about the people who become great and it dawned on me that, they probably had lots of times when they were'nt so great. I imagine they just had a lot more 'moments of greatness' than you and me.
It also occurred to me that we all have moments of greatness. Times when we exceeded our own expectations. I remember a time when I played a tennis match against a club pro. For whatever reason that day at that time, I played totally out of my head. That is until I realized, how great I was playing. Then it all fell apart and I returned to my more normal average game. Has this ever happened to you?
Then there are the other types of moments of greatness. Things like when you did the right thing even though the temptation to do the easy and maybe not moral thing was right there for you to take advantage of. Or maybe you offered assistance to someone in need when you were in a hurry and didn't really want to stop. Or did the right thing as a parent when it would have been more expedient to look the other way.
"We all have moments of greatness"
So if you accept my premise that we all have or are capable of moments of greatness than its only logical, that we are all capable of a life of greatness! Why not try for one moment of greatness today.
I know I'm headed out the door looking for someone to help (whether they need it not) I've got some greatness to find....

How to have a beautiful day

To start your weekend off right, here is my guaranteed formula for having a beautiful day anytime you wish....
"give a little extra"
It's so easy to put a smile on someone else's face and it takes so little effort on your part!
"the scent of the rose lingers on the hand that gives it"
Today, everytime you encounter someone, give them a little extra, that could be a smile, a compliment or just a little extra time. I've tried as an experiment to walk down a busy street and smiled at everyone I passed. I found that more than half of them smiled back. When you smile, it has been proven to release 'feel good chemicals into your body. So, you make them and yourself feel good.
This is what's so great about giving a little extra, is that it makes you happier. Imagine what our world would be like if we all gave a little extra. Need a favor, no problem, I'd be happy to help. Hold open a door for someone or just take a moment to recognize that they exist, it's going to lead to a beautiful day for you with so little extra effort.
And remember, smile, it looks really good on you!

P.S. Just had a great idea, why don't you pass this article on to your friends. If you are computer literate (like me) here's how. At the bottom of article you will see the time the article was posted. Right click on that and then on copy shortcut. Now when you email someone, just click on edit and then paste and you're done.
Now you will help someone else, have a beautiful day and Eduardo will be pleased that the happiness has been spread further!

The first law of expert advice

"They say the secret to success and happiness is all in your head"
If that's true, I wonder why aren't all physchologists and physciatrists rich and happy?
Perhaps the answer is that they devote almost all of their time and efforts in studying human weaknesses instead of human strengths. Trying to explain why we do dumb things instead of trying to figure out why we do smart things.
Most people are too busy living to create wealth. Too busy to find love, happiness and wisdom. That would require; silence, stillness and solitude which is essential to really get the most out of your brain. To quiet the mind so that the answers can manifest.
It's not that you can't afford the time to be quiet and still, it's that you can't afford not to!
Oh, and the first law of expert advice is....
"don't ask the barber if you need a haircut"

Why will power is not always enough?

"when imagination
and will, are in conflict,
the imagination
always wins"
Emile Coue
So let's suppose that you have decided to lose weight or quit smoking and will be using only 'will power', what do you think your chances for success will be? Study after study confirms your chances are very slim indeed.
The first thing that happens to most is that they start imagining how difficult it will be fighting the cravings. So your grit your teeth and plow ahead. The problem is that you keep imagining the difficulty and perhaps the fall out from your failure. All you are really doing is setting yourself to fail.
As our buddy Emile said, imagination will always win out so the only logical course of action is to take control of your thoughts and imagine that your goal will be achieved easily. Imagine a success outcome with improved health and the admiration of friends. Stay focused in your imagination on positive feelings and your chances are greatly improved.
"logic will take your from A to B
Imagination will take you anywhere"
Albert Einstein
Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to sit here and imagine kicking some serious butt in my next squash game.

To get smarter...go outside!

This is interesting....
"Researchers have found that the ceiling height in your home or your office, can affect how you feel and act"
Apparently a higher ceiling height leads to greater creativity, better abstract thought and improved detail-specific thinking. (that's a mouthful)

This is expected to lead to changes in office and retail developments. And I would think if home owners want Johnny to do better in school, maybe he should get a higher ceiling in his bedroom! Or better yet, send him outside where there is no limit to the height of the sky, he'll be brilliant!

Seriously though, I have always noticed that I think better when I'm outside, however I always attributed it to being closer to nature. This is really good news for office workers around the world. I can see their boss saying, you get your butt outside with that laptop and don't come back until you've solved our problems. (as long as its not wintertime or raining)

So now we know, that old saying was true...
"the skys the limit"

What's bouncing around in your head?

"Just as a check is worthless
without your signature,
your thoughts cannot harm
you without your consent"
Richard Carlson
Small changes in your pattern of thinking can have massive results in your success and happiness!
We all have negative thoughts on occasion, some more than others. They are insidious and I'm not sure you can ever totally shut them out. What you can do is recognize when you are experiencing negative thoughts that lead to negative emotions. It is at this point that most successful people and most happy people tend to take charge of their thoughts and use self talk. Things like.....no, I can do it or I'll think of a solution or I'm not going to let her upset me.
The point here is that you may not stop negative thoughts but you can recognize and correct it before it does you any damage.
