People my age are much older than me...

"I recently celebrated another birthday which is not so bad if you consider the alternative."
Now while I appreciate the condolences and gentle jibes, it got me thinking about how we interpret age. Why do people want to know our age? Unless you want to know whether someone is legal drinking age, what does it matter?
As I get older, all that birthdays do is remind me that I have less in front of me than behind me. And even worse....someday, someone will expect me to act my age (now that would be depressing). So I'm proposing that when we reach a certain age, let's say 50, that we no longer solicit a person's age or give it when questioned. We should respond...I'm zero years old.
As a zero year old, we recognize that we spent 50 plus years and learned so damn little that we are starting over. A fresh start and an obligation to be immature, wild and free of everyone's expectations of us. Sounds pretty good huh?
"it's not my inner child, I'm afraid of losing contact with, it's my outer adult"
I may grow older but I can be immature forever and that's just what I'm damn well going to do! I can see it now......watching younger people having a blast at some immature event and saying to myself....'I wish I'd done that' (and then being reminded by a younger friend...you did you old fool).
As a zero year old I'm thinking....God was just showing off when he made us!

P.S. I read the other day that wine is the milk of the old (Richard Harris) I guess there are some benefits of age.
